She began her acting career on television in the late 1990s, and has appeared in various films including The Woods and Blue Car Murder by Numbers Blood and Chocolate. Bruckner started acting when she was just 11 years old. The actress appeared in commercials on several television pilots, and on the daytime soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful in 1999. Her debut lead role came in Blue Car (2002), an independent film in which she played a teenager in the high school who was in interacted to David Strathairn as her teacher. Roger Ebert said that Bruckner handled this complex script with conviction. Bruckner was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for "Best female role in a film" for her performance in the film. Bruckner is a Hollywood-based Californian born daughter of an Hungarian father and a Russian mom. Her paternal grandparents are German. Her parents grew up in Hungary before emigrating to the U.S. in 1984 through a refugee camp in Italy. She has three siblings: two sisters, and one brother.
